Intention (SMART Goal)

By March 1, as part of TEAM 6 as Bassist, I will have evidence of writing a bassline and melodies for our new song by following this tutorial for Session 4.

PRE-PRODUCTION – INQUIRY

Leader(s) in the Field / Exemplary Work(s)

John Myung is the bassist for Dream Theater and I am using them as a big inspiration for the current song we are working on because John Myung uses a lot of different techniques to achieve a really cool sound. It’s very complex but still sounding melodic which is what I’m going for.

Secondary Source

This video is really cool because the guy gives his professional analysis of Dream Theater’s song: Metropolis Part 1. He talks about all of the different techniques that the bassist, John Myung, uses in the song, and even shows how to play the song.

Training Source(s)

SMART Goal Milestone Schedule

By next week, we will have a rough recording of some of the ideas and riffs, possibly a finished structure. By the end of the session, we will have a hopefully better recording of a finished song with a good structure.

POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

We had to figure out structure problems to make the song flow a bit better. Some of the work we did on that was not in the recording but we did put in a lot of work on the structure after recording that.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Me and Liam did a lot of work after school but we collaborated a lot as a whole on structure and flow.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

We used Garageband

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

This helped improve my collaboration skills and my songwriting skills

Reactions to the Final Version

Keith said that we need to work on some of the transitions to smooth it out but he liked the overall structure of it.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I am pretty happy with the final product. There is still work to be done but I really enjoyed writing and playing it.
